Eastbourne

By spending time with my dad while Norma ( my Stepmum) was in hospital, Ian and I managed to visit places around Eastbourne that we wouldn't normally have seen. Two weekends ago dad started talking about Airbourne. What on earth was that I wondered! Turns out that for four days Eastbourne itself is subjected to Aircraft noise from 10 am to 6 pm while displays from a number of planes perform for thousands of people along the seafront.

Red arrows doing what they do best.

The red arrow fly past.
The display was spectacular and I was devastated to here of the death of one of their pilots at Bournmouth. I expect this was one of the last displays to be performed the week before the tragedy.

Wing walkers.

The seafront. Ive never seen it this crowded!
We took a trip to Beachy Head and took pictures of probably the most photographed lighthouse on the south coast.

Sea rescue helicopter hovering around the light house. They didn't appear to find anything and soon left the area.

This famous lighthouse ( now a private residence )  was saved from disappearing down the cliff and into the sea.It was moved about 20 feet away from the edge several years ago.  It also appeared on the TV drama, Life and Times of a She Devil.

.

Of course we just had to see the infamous Long Man But wait...... what has happened to his large appendage?????? Why couldn't they leave well alone!! After all its part of the landscape and therefore should NOT have been vandalised!!

Where's the missing part!!!!

Ian is standing by the Longmans staff on the right. It gives you an insight of just how big the chalk drawing is.

Further along the road and out of sight from the main thoroughfare was this horse. I assumed it must have been drawn at the same time as the Long man.

This beetle just asked to be photographed!!!!
Last but not least was a visit to the Harbour. It was great just people watching ( and boat watching ) sitting at one of the many cafes along the marina.

Lifeboat passing the lock entrance.

Huge lock for only two boats!

Thats more like it.

Boats are coming and going all day long.

I have no idea what these fish are, but they are very partial to bread!
